Operator 2 – Department of Public Services

The City of Hastings is accepting applications for full time Operator 2 for the Department of Public Services. Typical work hours are 7 am to 3 pm, Monday – Friday. When qualified, weekend lab work (routine overtime) and emergency call-ins will be available.

This position is responsible for various daily work assignments, estimated timetables for completion, and materials and equipment allocations from the DPS Superintendent. The ability to operate hand and power-driven tools, along with motorized equipment, is necessary. Candidate will participate in such tasks as maintaining City parks, buildings, and grounds facilities, among other varied duties in regards to City functionality and quality-control.

Base wage for the Operator 2 ranges from $17.90 to $20.25 per hour, depending on experience. With experience and training, a promotion to Utility Tech may be available. The City of Hastings offers a competitive benefits package including MERS hybrid retirement plan, health insurance with HSA option, generous paid time off including vacation time (starting 80 hrs)/personal (16 hrs)/sick (80 hrs) and the option to convert OT to comp time.  Paid continuing education and training programs and bonuses and incentives for State of Michigan water and/or sewer licenses is available. Each license has a $0.40 per hour incentive rate up to $4.80/hour additional pay.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, ability to get Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) valid in the State of Michigan within 6 months of hire. Candidate must pass a drug/alcohol screen, pre-employment physical, and background check.
