Utility Tech – Wastewater Treatment Plant
The City of Hastings is accepting applications for full time Operator 2 and for Utility Techs for the wastewater treatment plant. Typical work hours are 7 am to 3 pm, Monday – Friday. When qualified, weekend lab work (routine overtime) and emergency call-ins will be available.
This position is responsible for operation, maintenance, and repair of the water
and wastewater facilities and reports directly to the Utilities Superintendent. Competitive applicants will have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, be self-motivated, have mechanical inclination, trouble shooting ability, general knowledge of intermediate math/science/laboratory practices and procedures, and desire to be part of an effective team.
Operator 2 is an entry-level position with wages ranging from $17.90 to $20.25 per hour depending on experience. The more experienced Utility Tech position has pay ranges from $22.24 to $26.42 per hour (plus license incentives). The City of Hastings offers a competitive benefits package including MERS hybrid retirement plan, health insurance with HSA option, generous paid time off including vacation time (starting 80 hrs)/personal (16 hrs)/sick (80 hrs) and the option to convert OT to comp time. Paid continuing education and training programs and bonuses and incentives for State of Michigan water and/or sewer licenses is available. Each license has a $0.40 per hour incentive rate up to $4.80/hour additional pay.
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, ability to get Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) valid in the State of Michigan within 6 months of hire. Candidate must pass a drug/alcohol screen, pre-employment physical, and background check.
