Hastings Elections
The Clerk/Treasurer is the City’s election officer responsible for the conduct of all Federal, State, and Local elections in compliance with State election laws and the City of Hastings Charter. The Clerk/Treasurer’s office has charge of voter registration records and updates for City residents and cooperates with State and County officials in processing new or amended registrations. The Deputy City Clerk plays key roles in carrying out these responsibilities.
Upcoming Election Information (November 5, 2024 Election)
- Early voting will begin October 26 and run through November 3 at the Hastings Community Education and Recreation Center (520 W South St). The hours for voting are 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM Monday to Friday, and 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM Saturdays and Sundays. NOTE: When entering the CERC, parking is to the right and behind the building. The polling site is on the second (2nd) floor; there is an elevator available.
- Absentee Ballots have been mailed, and can be requested for mailing or pickup at the City of Hastings (201 E. State St) building.
- City Hall will be open on Saturday, November 2, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM for voter registration and election business.
- Election Day voting will be held at the Hastings Baptist Church (309 E Woodlawn) on November 5. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

Objectives
- Provide training as needed to staff and election workers in election law updates and in the operations of machines. Ensure that election workers participate in certification training provided by the County at least every two years as required by State law.
- Maintain up-to-date voter registration files.
- Select and train impartial election workers. Determine staffing level for each election based on anticipated voter turnout and ballot complexity, but not less than minimums required by regulation.
- Publish all election notices in a timely manner.
- Issue and process absentee ballots accurately and in compliance with regulations.
- Assist voters courteously without compromising the right to a secret ballot.
- Cooperate fully with the County Clerk and other municipal clerks within the county to obtain efficiencies and gain knowledge of various approaches to new and ongoing issues.
